5 “Here we make ideal wines” Ilario andLeopoldo Ruffino The story of Ruffino begins in 1877, when cousins Ilario and Leopoldo Ruffino started to produce quality wines that describe Italy worldwide. The business idea was both simple and a winning one: to communicate the goodness of Chianti wine to people faraway. Ruffino soon set the standard for the entire Italian wine scene. The founders’ vision – to produce “ideal wine” – was achieved with a modern cellar built in Pontassieve, not far from Florence. Grapes from the surrounding hills were processed here in a strategic location next to the railway for transportation. An important glass factory was also situated in Pontassieve, providing locally made flasks, which were wrapped in straw in a room by the river. Due to the skill and artistry of the legendary weaver women, the flask is one of Ruffino’s most iconic products, which has enjoyed enormous success over the years. Ruffino immediately earned a reputation throughout Italy and internationally.

6 7 Artists like Giuseppe Verdi and leading figures such as the Duke of Aosta, a member of the Savoy royal family, were two of the earliest enthusiasts of Ruffino. The boom and “Dolce Vita” years saw Ruffino wines served in the best restaurants and on tables everywhere, enjoyed by regular people, actors and politicians around the world. In 1984, Chianti gained DOCG status and Chianti Ruffino, as an acknowledgment for its far-sightedness, was awarded the first ever quality band, numbered AA00000001. Ruffino now vaunts great Tuscan classics like Chianti Classico Riserva Ducale, Riserva Ducale Oro, Chianti Ruffino and Brunello di Montalcino Greppone Mazzi. At the same time, the willingness to take on new challenges has resulted in the creation of striking Supertuscans, including the multi-award-winning Modus, the introduction of innovative young wines like the Aqua di Venus line and the acquisition of two fully organic estates in Veneto in 2018 for the production of Prosecco and Pinot Grigio. More than 140 years on and we still share the same Italian values: the taste of being together, style, knowing how to have fun without being excessive, friendship, environmental sustainability and a steadfast commitment to others. The history of Poggio Casciano dates to ancient times and Roman origins, as denoted by the name “Casciano”, from “Cassius”, probably a centurion in the Roman army who was bequeathed this knoll as war spoils. The estate acquired its current appearance due to later development during the Renaissance: Poggio Casciano turned to Florence as a mark of respect and devotion for the Medici family, which dominated the political and intellectual scene at that time. From the 1500s onwards, Poggio Casciano, a farm, estate and noble villa all at once, welcomed men of letters, artists and scientists seeking to learn more about grape growing. Villa, farm, estate: Poggio Casciano preserves its timeless charm and profound soul. Over the centuries, illustrious families contributed to making the estate into a vibrant cultural center. It’s no coincidence that one of the earliest essays about Sangiovese was written by a certain Soderini of Poggio Casciano. This dual purpose of scientific research and refined hospitality has been renewed today. The 14th-century Renaissance villa lies at the heart of the estate, with its views over the verdant vineyards in the perfect blend of classical and modern styles. The Italian gardens were designed by the famous landscape architect Pietro Porcinai. Next to this, a centuries-old woodland is dotted with white aluminum tables, encouraging guests to enjoy relaxing moments with a glass of good wine surrounded by nature. 14 15 The word “bottega” conjures up the smell of wood and old memories. Ever since the Renaissance, people have gone to the “bottega” (workshop) to learn a trade, to make handicrafts, and sometimes even art. Strolling around the streets of Florence and Siena, through broad doorways at street level, you’d come across a master craftsman and his many apprentices who would carve, cut, paint, sculpt, weave and work leather in a creative production process that was passed down from the old to the young and vice versa. Over time, the concept of the “bottega” has slowly extended to the making and sale of specialty foods as the idea of gastronomy naturally developed. The Bottega is now a rare treasure trove that recalls old trades and lovingly displays the produce of master cheesemakers, butchers, bakers and food specialists. It’s a place that encourages social interaction with the odd word or two.

16 17 ENOTECA RUFFINO A selection of Tuscany’s finest specialty foods can be purchased at the Bottega, Ruffino’s grocery store. Cheeses, cured meats, fruit preserves and vegetable chutneys, honey, prized truffles, and savory and sweet cookies arrive from the surrounding hills. The extra-virgin olive oil and wines are produced by Ruffino. More than anything else, the Bottega is a treasure trove of Ruffino wines. In addition to all Ruffino wines, here you will find large formats, older vintages and all the labels that have shaped Italy’s winemaking history such as Riserva Ducale, Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino, as well as lovingly cherished rare limited editions. 18 19 BAR-A-VIN La Bottega del Vino is open every day of the week, except Tuesday, for aperitivo and dinner with a tempting menu featuring delicious schiacciapizze topped breads, grazing boards with cured meats and cheeses, and our famous meatballs. The extensive grounds ensure relaxed dining all year round. In the summer, the loggia, gardens and woodland in front of the villa are perfect places to savor snacks, evening drinks and picnics in the shade of centuries-old pine trees with magical views of the estate’s vineyards. TAKEAWAY AND HOME DELIVERY La Bottega del Vino is an enticing and multipurpose space. Step inside and you’re welcomed by the aromas and flavors of Tuscan specialty foods. 20 21 TUSCAN COOKINGS WITH RUFFINO WINES In the second half of the fifteenth century, the young Leonardo, who was a student of Verrocchio at that time, had the idea of opening an inn on Florence’s Ponte Vecchio with his friend Sandro Botticelli. He wanted his innovative cooking style to embody beauty and goodness, and elevate the taste for being together—as well as earning him some cash on the side. He called it “Le Tre Rane”. Following in the footsteps of this slice of history, Ruffino decided to call its restaurant “Le Tre Rane” to embrace the idea of cooking that embodies beauty and goodness, while elevating the joy of being together in a setting that is reminiscent of a chief farmer’s home. 22 23 THE RESTAURANT Locanda Le Tre Rane is on the first floor above the wine cellar and next to the Agriresort. The welcoming architecture recreates a Tuscan villa with several different spaces: a main hall that sits about 30 persons, a dining room with a long wooden table for family and friends, and, in the summer, a wrought iron and weathered steel pergola decorated with climbing roses, herbs and citrus plants for sunset views over the rolling Tuscan countryside. On the ground floor, also part of the Locanda Le Tre Rane restaurant, a large, light-filled hall adorned with evergreen plants offers views over the vineyards and olive groves belonging to the estate. Stylish functions and private events can be organized here with catering provided by our on-site restaurant. It’s lunchtime, as the enticing aromas drift from the kitchen...

Born in Chianti and a career cook for almost 30 years, Stefano cares about seasonal and local ingredients, making unforgettably flavorful dishes. Tradition and creativity, knowledge and experimentation, experience and love are the secrets of this authentic cuisine that is also elegant and innovative. Stefano is flanked by a team of young talented chefs. People, time and beauty produce magical moments at the dining table. Eight seasonal menus will rotate year-round to celebrate traditional Tuscan ingredients. A varied à la carte menu features meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. “Il Desinare” is a menu designed for business lunches with simple but flavorful dishes for a quick meal in the middle of the day. Ruffino wines take center stage: all labels are served by the glass or bottle. Diners can also select older vintages and large formats directly from the striking cellars. The rooms look out over the vineyards, Italian gardens or the scenic infinity pool. All the rooms are elegantly furnished in a noble country house style to reflect the local identity and timeless Renaissance taste. BREAKFAST Wake up every morning to a generous and varied breakfast, choosing from many fresh local ingredients lovingly prepared by our skilled staff. Breakfast is served in the breakfast room or on the terrace in the summer. THE POOL The exquisite infinity pool with hill views is available for use by guests all summer long. It’s the perfect place to breathe in the aromas of Tuscany and unwind by the surrounding beautiful Chianti countryside. In the summer, the poolside menu includes cocktails, glasses of Ruffino wine and tempting snacks. SPECIAL EVENTS Special poolside events are organized during the summer by prior reservation and without the need to stay overnight. The breathtaking vineyard views entice us away from our daily lives to spend relaxing moments with poolside drinks and BBQs organized by the Locanda Le Tre Rane restaurant. Waking up here is magic: homemade cakes and freshly made coffee as your eyes open to beauty… I finished that book at last by the side of the pool between a refreshing dip and the occasional cocktail.

EVENTS ON THE ESTATE The spaces on the estate are organized to hold special occasions in the Renaissance villa and surrounding grounds. Dream events such as weddings, birthdays, graduations, communions and other special occasions are organized in the villa and gardens, all guaranteed by Ruffino’s trademark hospitality and professionalism. The table settings and menus are prepared by the staff and kitchen of the Locanda Le Tre Rane restaurant. The estate is perfectly equipped to hold conferences, meetings and corporate events with its spacious function rooms, top video conferencing and projector technology. The gardens have been fully renovated with raised wooden platforms, white aluminum tables and chairs, and new lighting and sound equipment among the trees.
